The Great Tuolumne River, California, spring high water 2011

Check out how big and fun the "T" can be! A jewel of a river, I grew up on it. My first class 4-5 in 1976. Great rapids, beautiful scenery, awesome hikes. I love this place.

Clogging In Grand Canyon(One way to keep warm during an April windstorm.)

It's not always stinkin' hot in the Grand Canyon. Here we are on an OARS/Dories trip at Rattlesnake beach, during an early April windstorm. Freezing our butts off. But (!), our three Suthun Gals make it happen with a bit of warm-up clogging! The hot toddies came later!

Lava Swim Team, Nov. 2011"It's not how you screw up. It's how you recover. Higher res version"

First video compilation of Dory flip and unflip before Son of Lava, higher res. 116 trips through the Canyon without a flip (tho I shoulda flipped a dozen times probably), then 2 in 2 years: both in the same place - Humpback Chub in Lava Falls. Funny how a feature you found interesting but not of consequence for 34 years all of a sudden becomes rather pivotal (pun intended). Kinda like a girlfriend I used to know.

Grand Canyon Flood 1957

So here's part of Moulton Fulmer's 1958 81,000 cfs river trip in the Grand Canyon. See them pulling into Deer Creek Falls with their boats, and the infamous Granite Narrows (AKA Deer Creek Narrows), the narrowest part of the river at 75.5 feet (I helped measure it at its narrowest point), and how there was just no way to not get splatted on the wall! Worst spot on the river at high flows!
