*2-DAY ADVANCED RECERT INFO:
Nobody else does this course!! Here’s the beta:
Your existing "International Certification” includes:
The exact same training as the SRT1/ATP training below (whether you got it from SSI or Rescue 3). You’re required to recertify every 3 years with this cert.
(We accept former RQ3 students in this program)
Your existing Australian Training Package Certificate (ATP) includes:
SISOBWG404A Apply river crossing skills
SISOWWR201A Demonstrate self rescue skills in white water
SISOWWR302A Demonstrate white water resuces and recoveries
You theoretically have the ATP forever, SORT-OF… because you’re required to demonstrate continuing education to keep it. In other words, to keep your ATP cert current, you need ongoing swiftwater rescue training, like for example doing SSI's Internationally recognised SRT1 course every 3 years. Make any sense of all this red tape?
Most experienced river runners and rescue personnel would love it if the recert course was cheaper, involved less travel/camping time, and just as importantly, not only helped you practice skills you’ve already been taught & done, but gave you a few new tools for your kit. SSI now has the answer: our newly developed hybrid 2-day Advanced SRT1 Recert!
Here’s the deal:
* 1 day of online practice & testing at home before the course
* A 2-day weekend of intensive scenarios on-site.
More information will come as we test out this new program over the coming months, but essentially, expect to study online, and take some tests before you show up. You have to pass to continue, and past this point there will be no refunds; once you begin, you’ve committed. When you show up at the river, you’ll be assessed with practicals: knots, anchors, throw-bags, Mechanical Advantage systems, swimming, etc. In order to continue, you have to demonstrate competence. So this course is only for those who are ready and practiced and have river time under their belts. No Death By PowerPoint, no knot or MA practice, just rock and roll baby, show me what you’ve got and then we can move on to complicated scenarios and some new cool techniques.
The rest of the 2 days involve challenging scenarios and brief training and practice on the advanced new stuff. Essentially, the testing is in the very beginning, and the upskill training, assessment and observation is the rest.
COST: Since we don’t need to re-do the Australian cert, and its only 2 days on-site (I still have to spend a day scoring your pre-course tests), your cost is $350 instead of $460! Plus, you get to do the whole thing within a weekend and you recertify your International qual for another 3 years. That’s about HALF or less what you might pay anywhere else in Australia.
