Here’s a fun song called "Suguraro" my friend and colleague Sean Browning sings, by the Austin Lounge Lizards:

Something I recently penned about Lava Falls:

Funny, but Lava Falls doesn't scare me as much as some of the other biggies down there (even after four flips in the past 6 years, and in spite of it being the only place (so far ;-) I've flipped in the Canyon in 40) simply because of this: that right run is one of the few raft lines in the world where you can be right where you (thought) you wanted to be, doing everything you (thought) you were supposed to do, and the furies still will have their way (and your ass).

After doing and seeing hundreds of runs, the fact is that no matter the skill or planning, the V-wave spits you out however she wants, and all one can do is shake the water out of the eyes, hope the oars are still in place, and grok in a nano-second what to do next. I don't care what anyone says, all I've managed to change in all this time is to deliberately angle myself left and call a huge "Over Right" as we hit the V. At least that way it USUALLY spits us out left of the Black Rock (a.k.a.: Cheese Grater) and I don't have to fret about the ulcer-causing wooden boat-mangler the "Corner Pocket". The upshot of that little move is that you are almost sure to go straight into the Big Cahuna. That wave, for sure, is pure fate. No way to count between crashes, and even if that were possible, nothing one could do about it anyway. After 5 years of losing my Mojo there, at least I've finally re-grokked how to hit it (how it hits me is another matter). Not that this will have any effect on the outcome.

Kinda like life ;-)

Wanna laugh?:

And to close, a couple of fun photos… the season’s about to begin, so hoping for more good Canyon stuff to share later!
